string、rope、line、cord、thread、wire、cable 這些名詞均含「線」之意。

由於電動工具當中常會用到電源線、控制線、鋼索、銅線等零件，所以這邊也來分享一下知識：

String：普通用詞，指捆綁小件物品的細繩或細帶子。

When you pull the strings, the puppet's arms and legs move.

你扯動細繩，木偶的手腳就會動。

Rope：指用於捆綁大物件的粗壯而堅固的繩子，一般用綿、毛、麻、金屬或其它材料製成。如wire rope即為鋼索。

A sailor threw a rope ashore and we tied the boat to a post.

一個水手將一條纜繩扔到岸上，於是我們把船拴到了一根柱子上。

Line：普通用詞，含義廣泛，指任何一種線，常作引申用。

Sign your name on the dotted line.

請在虛線處簽名。

She was very old and her face was covered with lines.

她已非常年邁，臉上佈滿了皺紋。

Cord：比string粗，比rope細，較牢固，通常用於捆紮較小物品的線或繩。用作引申當約束講。另外電源線稱為Power cord

Where's the cord that ties back the curtains?

系窗簾的繩子在哪兒？

Thread：普通用詞，指用棉、毛、絲或纖維等紋成的很細的線，通常用於縫紉、紡織等。

This time I'll do it properly with a needle and thread.

這次，我要用針線將它縫好。

Wire：專指用金屬製成的線，如單芯線、漆包線等。

The box was fastened with a rusty wire.

那個箱子是用生鏽的鐵絲捆緊的。

Cable：電纜、鋼索、纜、索、纜繩、巨纜、鋼絲繩、粗索、絞線、有線電視、如控制線control cable。
